Communication Systems Lead Engineer
Join us to define the next generation of tactical communication systems!
We’re looking for a Communication Systems Lead Engineer to take charge of one of the most critical capabilities in our unmanned ground vehicles: ensuring reliable, secure communication between a vehicle and operator in mission-critical environments.
You’ll be shaping the technical roadmap, leading a small specialist team, and making the key decisions that define how our communication systems perform in the field. It’s a hands-on, high-impact role at the intersection of engineering, strategy, and delivery - placing you at the heart of how we enable autonomous systems to operate, and giving you the chance to be part of the shift that’s defining the future of defence technology.
As a Communication Systems Lead Engineer, you’ll get to:
👉 Take full ownership of the technical roadmap for communication systems, and lead development and integration efforts of tactical radio systems into our UGVs to ensure resilient and secure operator-to-vehicle communications.
👉 Lead your own team – not only making sure they have a clear daily workflow, but also a technical vision to aspire to, and the guidance, support, and motivation to get there.
👉 Put your technical project management skills to work and collaborate closely with stakeholders inside and outside engineering – from Project Management and Sales to System Engineering and Test & Verification – to stay aligned on what the customer really needs, while offering solutions that are technically sound, realistically deliverable, and proven to work in demanding real-world conditions.
👉 Act as an informed buyer – we don’t develop radios in-house, we integrate systems. You’ll evaluate tactical radio solutions from different providers, weighing performance, interoperability, security, and field reliability to ensure we choose options that meet the operational needs of our customers.
👉 Get out from behind the screen and into the field to support your team with testing and validation of communication modules, troubleshooting complex issues like RF interference, latency, or network failures, and collecting performance data to feed back into system design improvements.
👉 Become the go-to technical expert for communication systems – staying on top of developments in tactical communication technologies and building up in-house knowledge step-by-step.
What we’re looking for:
✅ 5+ years of experience in technical leadership within a product development setting.
✅ Previous experience leading at least a small engineering team or technical workstream.
✅ Experience with tactical communication systems, including configuration of IP radios, mesh networks, SATCOM, and 5G routers.
✅ You've tested and deployed communication systems in real-world environments – preferably in military or other mission-critical settings.
✅ You understand network-level concepts like TCP/IP, RF performance, interference handling, and troubleshooting – and how they hold up in operational environments.
✅ A proactive, systems-thinking mindset – you're technically curious, but at the same time comfortable navigating trade-offs.
✅ Strong communication and stakeholder management skills – you align teams, push back when needed, and clearly communicate technical limitations and risks.
✅ Background in the defence or telecoms sector (e.g., military communications, tactical networks, or work with defence customers).
✅ Higher education in a relevant technical field (e.g., telecommunications engineering, information technology, electronics).
✅ Very good English skills (at least B2), both written and spoken.
What we offer:
▪️High autonomy and influence in a company positioned for significant growth.
▪️Support for leadership growth through executive events and development programs.
▪️A collaborative, cross-border culture with offices in seven countries.
▪️Extra vacation days, wellness perks, and flexible working arrangements.
▪️ Unique benefits like a 28-day paid sabbatical and additional leave for life’s key milestones.
▪️A chance to contribute to technology so far rarely seen in practice – the real-world application of autonomous and robotic systems in mission-critical environments.
