Welcoming Our New Head of People & Culture - Triin Sikkal
We’re excited to welcome our new Head of People & Culture to Milrem Robotics. With a strong background in building and leading HR functions across fast-paced, international organizations, she brings both strategic insight and a genuine passion for people.
From Public Administration to Global HR Leadership
Triin’s journey into HR began at the University of Tartu, where she studied Public Administration and discovered a strong interest in public service and people management. This early curiosity quickly turned into a clear career path.
Her first role was a training and development specialist, where she was responsible for employee and leadership development as well as performance management across the organization. These areas have remained her favourites ever since.
Triin later continued her studies at Tallinn University of Technology, focusing her master’s thesis on talent management.
Over the years, she has led HR functions at EY Estonia and Playtech Estonia, and most recently worked in global people business partnering at Bolt.
Why Milrem Robotics?
Having worked in global tech companies, Triin is drawn to environments that are dynamic, ambitious, and driven by innovation.
She explains: “I enjoy working in the fast-paced global tech sector with bright and inspiring leaders and people. At the same time, I started to miss the opportunity to build and shape the full people function together with top leadership.”
Interestingly, it wasn’t just the role that sparked her interest. “When the Head of People & Culture role in Milrem opened, several of my friends sent me the link and said I had to apply - and I did.”
Milrem stood out for its unique combination of cutting-edge technology, international scope, ambitious growth plans, and value set that match her own: open-minded, responsible, and focused on teamwork.
First Priorities: Listen, Learn, and Build
In her first months, the focus is clear: understanding the organization before making changes.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know my team, the leadership, and colleagues across different countries. My goal is to understand how my experience can best support both the people function and the broader organization.”
This includes reviewing the current HR practices, company goals, and team needs, then building on that foundation. “The aim is to map and prioritize the key people topics, and processes that need to be built or improved.”
Triin also sees strong potential in leveraging technology and AI to make the people function even more effectively.
Building a Strong and Supportive Culture
For Triin, leadership is about creating the conditions where people can succeed and grow. “As a leader, I aim to support, think along, and sometimes challenge. Trust, ownership, and open communication are fundamental.”
She is driven by seeing teams that are engaged, motivated, and collaborative, where people feel safe to try new things and learn along the way.
What Makes a Great Workplace?
Triin’s view on great organizations is both simple and powerful: “It comes down to shared goals and purpose, trust, strong leadership, teamwork, and meaningful relationships.”
She also highlights the importance of respect, openness to different perspectives, and a willingness to truly listen. “I believe that together with managers and leaders, the people team plays a key role in building a culture where employees can grow and develop alongside the organization.”
Active Lifestyle to Keep the Balance
Behind the scenes, HR often involves tackling complex and sensitive matters. To recharge, Triin prefers to stay active, whether that means going for a run, walking in the forest, or going for longer hiking trips.
Her longest walk so far has been the Camino Costal track from Porto to Santiago de Compostela, covering 289 km in 11 days!
